Finding those old Bollywood records — it was almost like having to research your own past, in a way... Then the guitar started getting dropped from all my tracks, and I was putting sitars and dhols in and everything, and then that was it. Everything just went. I'd rather hear 200 tabla players chugging along than some rock drummer...

BLACK STAR LINER
Led by singer/songwriter Chogue Hosein, Black Star Liner is one of the top British Asian bands in England. Since the release of their debut single, "Smoke the Prophets," which was voted NME Single of the Week in 1994, the Leeds-based ensemble has continued to forge a dance-inspiring fusion of ethnic instrumentation, electronic keyboards, and lush soundscapes. Initially attracting attention with an EP remix of the Rootsman's tune "Soundclash City Rockers," Black Star Liner recorded several singles for Feargal Sharkey's EXP label before signing with WEA in 1997. After releasing an EP, Rock Freak, for the label, they recorded a full-length album, Bengali Bantam Youth Experience. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
