Originally started as a series of fund-raisers for the
documentary MUTINY: Asians Storm British Music, the club Mutiny has become a force of its own
on the NYC music scene. Since November of 1997,
co-founders Vivek Bald (DJ Siraiki) and DJ Rekha have brought
New York a string of performances by British Asian artists --
Talvin Singh, State of Bengal, Badmarsh & Shri, Joi -- alongside
local South Asian talent -- OmZone, Karsh Kale, DJ Navdeep,
Suphala, Anju -- and a slew of New York's own diasporic
diabolics -- DJ Spooky, Mutamassik, Badawi, Wunmi, Singe
and Verb, and TC Islam. This on top of their own live mixes of
drum 'n bass, dub, jungle and hip-hop with tablas and sitars,
Bombay film soundtracks, and folk and classical music from all
over the subcontinent.
